Profile of Jenny Atherton, Williams Western Australia

How did you first get interested in sheepdog trialing?

I only started because my husband Ken was trialing. I am only a social trialer.

When and where did you compete in your first trial?

My first trial was at Tarwonga Yard and Utility in 2003 .

What dog did you use and how did you go?

I had a kelpie called Ramulam Darcey who is a paddock dog so in the yard section he held them and I did all the pushing. Got a score of eight.

What was your best dog? Name and Parents name.

Darcey was the dog I started with. Ramulam Toogie/Ramulam Dusty. I also use Ramulam Don (Princes Tom/Branga Spec) and have inherited Boylee Doug.

What do you enjoy most about dog training/trialing?

Socialising and catching up with friends. I dont train. The dogs and I just wing it.

Whom do you admire most, or who has helped you the most in your trialing.

My husband Ken.

What is your top training tip?

Enjoy yourself, dont play for sheep stations, have fun.

What is the best advice you could give to someone just starting out?

Treat the dog how you would like to be treated and they will work wonders for you. Don't worry about what might happen. If it happens, so what, it has happened to everyone else.

Anything you don't like about trialing.

Those who have to win no matter what. It takes the fun out of the sport.
